Let’s Chat: An indie experience

Recently I stopped by Unlimited Characters on Dunmore Road to snoop through their collection of used books, ideas for book clubs and some of their new books. If you have not had a chance to go there, you must.

There are books for everyone, and their large store makes it easy to get lost and spend hours searching the shelves for that next great read.

As usual, I found a few things and was working toward the till when I started chatting with the young person working there. We talked about all things book related when they mentioned they had written one and it was for sale at the till.

Through further conversation, I found out they are an ‘indie author.’ I really did not understand the term until we were discussing the book, and I then realized they had not only written the book but also self-published it without the help of a third party or publisher.

To say I was impressed was an understatement. I left the bookstore with my purchases, including the book The Daughter of Fire and Fury – Born to Burn by Olivia M Geib, the author who waited on me at the bookstore. I will admit it did take me a while to read it but that was only because life has been extremely hectic lately.

I finished the book this week and can hardly wait for the next in the series.

Olivia has immense talent. Her imagination led to great character development as she took us through the fantasy world of faeries and mortals. I am so impressed with the talented people we have in this area, and Olivia, you are at the top of my list. You believed in yourself and your writing, and that shows on every page.

I have a few story ideas that keep swirling in my brain and because of you Olivia, I feel it is time to start writing. Your inscription in my book says To Linda: Keep burning bright. I intend to.
