MLA Report: A season of gratitude and growth in Cypress-Medicine Hat

By Justin Wright on October 16, 2024.

As we reflect on the recent Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I find myself filled with immense gratitude for the privilege of serving the charming constituency of Cypress-Medicine Hat. This past year has brought numerous developments that underscore the positive growth in our region and the dedication of our government to improving the lives of Albertans.

Investing in our future

I’m thrilled to share that Alberta’s government is making an historic $8.6-billion investment in education through the School Construction Accelerator Program. This initiative will create more than 200,000 new and modernized student spaces across the province in the next seven years. For Cypress-Medicine Hat, this means new opportunities for our youth, including the recently announced school for the Medicine Hat Catholic School Board of Education.

Infrastructure and economic growth

Our region is becoming a hub of economic activity and innovation. The construction of Highway 3 and the funding for Highway 41’s design phase are laying the groundwork for improved transportation and commerce. Moreover, the renewed interest in the “Ports to Plains” economic corridor, stretching from Texas to Alaska, positions Medicine Hat as a future transportation powerhouse for Alberta.

We’re seeing job growth across various sectors, from agrifood processing to aviation and aerospace. The developments in hydrogen and helium production are putting us at the forefront of energy innovation. It’s a testament to the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of our community.

Community well-being

Mental health remains a top priority. Our recent Mental Health Summit, which saw participation from more than 100 attendees representing 35 organizations, demonstrates our commitment to identifying and closing gaps in mental health access.

Supporting our veterans and military families

As the military liaison for the Government of Alberta, I’m proud of the steps we’ve taken to support our veterans and military families. From addressing veteran homelessness to establishing the Canadian Armed Forces Day on the first Sunday in June, we’re working hard to honour those who serve our country.

A message of gratitude

This Thanksgiving, I’m deeply thankful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated Albertans in making our province an even better place to live, work and raise a family. The progress we’ve made is a direct result of the collaborative efforts of our community members, local businesses and government partners.

As we move forward, I’m filled with optimism about the future of Cypress-Medicine Hat and Alberta as a whole. Our government remains committed to fostering economic growth, improving education and health care, and enhancing the quality of life for all Albertans.

I encourage all constituents to stay engaged and share their thoughts on how we can continue to build a prosperous future together. Your input is invaluable as we work toward making Cypress-Medicine Hat the best it can be.

Thank you for your continued support and trust. Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant Alberta for generations to come.
