MLA Report: A recommitment to listen, learn and lead

By Justin Wright on June 19, 2024.

Just over one year ago, you placed your faith in me to be your voice and representative in government. I am humbled by the immense privilege you bestowed and want to express my profound gratitude for allowing me the honour of serving our community in this capacity.

This past year has been an incredible journey of listening and learning directly from you – the people I represent. From packed town halls to one-on-one meetings, I have made it my top mission to stay continually connected to your interests, concerns and aspirations. Every day, I am reminded that this role is about putting your needs first.

Your input has been absolutely vital as I have navigated the complexities of legislating on your behalf. Hearing first-hand about families struggling with the increasing costs of groceries, childcare, utilities and housing has steeled my resolve to fight for policies that ease financial burdens. The stories from small business owners determined to power through pandemic hardships and keep their Main Street storefronts open have reinforced my commitment to creating an environment where local entrepreneurs can thrive

In addition to learning from constituents, I have sought out local leaders, subject matter experts, stakeholders and advocates from all corners of our community. Listening intently to their diverse perspectives with an open mind has helped broaden my own viewpoints and shape my policy priorities in areas like education, public safety, infrastructure and environmental protection. While we may not always agree on the solutions, I respect and appreciate every voice that has been raised.

Serving as your representative has been equal parts rewarding and humbling. I am proud of the progress we have made together already through productive dialogue and collaboration. But there is still so much more work to be done to keep problem-solving and delivering meaningful change.

That is why today, on this one-year anniversary, I recommit myself fully to the principles of accessibility, transparency and keeping open lines of communication with all of you. Your voices will continue driving my agenda and shaping the future of our community that I fight for every day. I will not let up in my efforts to understand your needs and tirelessly advocate on your behalf.

Thank you again for the tremendous honour of representing you. I will always strive to make you proud. While the first year held many challenges, it has prepared me to be an even more effective leader. I look forward to an enormously productive year ahead as we join together to create more opportunities for everyone to succeed.
