Just Pondering: Don’t take it for granted

By Allyson McCaw on March 24, 2022.

So, I was reminded this week by my sister how lucky we are to live in this fair city.

She listened to me recite my week of attending a super performance at the Esplanade on Monday, sipping whiskey and learning all sorts of new stuff on St. Patrick’s Day, visiting with friends at the Veiner Centre and long walk along the beautiful river paths right outside my door. She was so jealous of all everything this city has to offer, and she lives in a much bigger community.

We are beyond lucky to have the Esplanade, which hosts a multitude of musicians, events and programs. Something for everyone. So, if you have not ventured in the doors, I suggest you run do not walk to any of the upcoming shows.

Then you take a good look at our downtown scene, and I cannot wait for warmer weather to explore all the new restaurants, patios and venues. I for one can feel a shift in the downtown core and it really is worth a look-see. Go explore, I think you will be surprised.

Then there is all our natural scenery with inviting walking and bike paths. Most are flat, thank God, and really inviting to break out the running shoes and just get out into the fresh air.

We all usually take for granted things that are right in front of us, so take a step back, look around, invite a friend to share with you and see how lucky we are.

I also want to wish hubby a very happy birthday and wedding anniversary – 35 years and counting. That is years of marriage not his age! Very smart man who insisted we get married on his birthday so he would never forget our wedding anniversary.

A little secret to our happiness is laughter. Just to prove it I bought him a birthday T-shirt which reads as follows: “I told my wife to embrace her mistakes, so she hugged me. ”

Keep smiling and stay well.
