The total focus of the Liberal marijuana legalization is all about recreation pot smoking. A legal age customer can walk into any government approved retail outlet and buy all the buds he or she can carry out. Smoke enough joints and you will get high as a kite. No different than consuming too much alcohol. ... Read More »

Re: “Gov’t decision on religious statement is an ‘attack on our Charter Rights,'” Oct. 17 The author’s Safe and Caring School Policy, “We believe men and women were created in the image of God, after His likeness, and therefore have transcendent, intrinsic worth,” should read “Supported by numerous sciences whose founding principles are based on ... Re: “Opposition to minimum wage increase is shortsighted, unwarranted,” Oct. 17 The letter from my friend Greg Cote regarding the effects of minimum wage increases was spot on in its analysis, but a bit short in the arithmetic department. His calculations were that half of those earning less than $15 per hour getting a raise ... Read More »

Re: “Ontario lab testing origins of life theory,” Oct. 9: I really enjoyed this story about 21st century Alchemy. About 700 years ago, scientists were trying to turn base metals into gold. Some spent a lifetime doing this. At the same time, scientists thought the sun was the centre of the galaxy and mice came ... Read More »

For those of us who consider ourselves to be true conservatives there is nothing dumber than watching our fellow seniors bashing the NDP and Liberals while they support a Liberal masquerading as a conservative, like Jason Kenney is doing. He has never been a true conservative. Brian Jean and Jason Kenney learned absolutely nothing from ... Read More »

Regarding the Oct. 1 increase of minimum wage from $13.60 to $15, here are some figures from the Medicine Hat News story of Sept. 29. 1. A $1 per hour wage increase equals about $2,000 per year to a full-time hourly worker. Therefore an increase of $1.40 equals an increase of about $2,800 per year. ... Read More »

When the provincial government labels the statement, “We believe men and women were created in the image of God, after His likeness, and therefore have transcendent, intrinsic worth” to be “unwelcoming, uncaring and/or disrespectful” (which is utterly ridiculous) and needs to be removed from a faith-based school’s “Safe and Caring” school policies or face being ... Regarding pie-in-the-sky promises, empty threats: I cannot believe how distasteful guest columnist Peter Mueller’s comments are becoming. But then again, his columns are becoming a constant trail of piddle. Margret Schacher Medicine Hat... Read More »

Re: “OECD report highlights Indigenous underemployment,” Oct. 1 The story on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development report cites a job seeker who was disadvantaged by having no “connections” to help him find a job. I don’t recall ever knowing anyone who had “connections” to aid in job-finding. I didn’t know such things even ... Read More »

I have been hearing about the locking of the doors at the Bow Island Health Centre for some time now. As a physician who had practised in Bow Island for more than 30 years, I was a little surprised at the decision as it seemed totally counter intuitive to any common sense. As I have ... Read More »

On Oct. 4 I was engaged in a ‘Vital Conversation’ that went well beyond the Community Foundation’s formal program for the day. Chris Hellman, co-chair of Thrive Medicine Hat, made the effort to correct one of the false assumptions I made in an earlier letter to the editor entitled “Who’s Driving the Thrive Bus?” In ...
