Placement of advertisement irks subscriber

By Letter to the Editor on December 14th, 2017

As a long-time News subscriber, I was somewhat choked to find a half-front-page ad from a local auto dealer in a recent issue, below which was the story about aid for the Hilda wildfire victims. To add insult to injury, the paper is folded so as to have the advertisement prominent. If the newspaper was ... Read More »

An unbelievable list of ‘perpetrators’

By Letter to the Editor on December 13th, 2017

I grew up, from birth to the age of 14, during a more or less “warring” time, including the closing years of the Second World War. The steamroller of the Soviet advance on Berlin caused many traumatic memories, even for a young kid like me. Those memories would be the stuff of much longer ‘stories ... Read More »

Complex world demands an intelligent creator

By Letter to the Editor on December 13th, 2017

Does the fossil record support evolution? Fact 1. All life in the fossil record appears abruptly and fully formed, showing no intermediate fossils revealing change. Fact 2. Fossils of dinosaurs with soft tissue prove they are not millions of years old but fit into the Biblical young Earth. Fact 3. Darwin himself was puzzled by ... Read More »

Column personified intolerance on the left

By Letter to the Editor on December 12th, 2017

Re: “Poisonous partisanship at the ballot box,” Dec. 2 After reading the Peter Mueller’s latest column I wondered how many other readers also saw the irony of the headline versus the content of his column. It has always been obvious from Mr. Mueller’s many columns written for the News that he was coming from the ... Read More »

Heart goes out to Herald School teachers

By Letter to the Editor on December 9th, 2017

My grandson attended Herald School 25 years ago. The teachers then were absolutely fantastic with the students, all so understanding and patient as I remember them. Herald School also had handicapped children. These fascinating teachers always had a smile for all who attended this school. So kind. One teacher I remember distinctly was Ms. Gold. ... Read More »

TSC care has grown by leaps and bounds

By Letter to the Editor on December 9th, 2017

In November, 1985 our infant son born May 17, 1985-began having infantile spasms. We and our family doctor, however, didn’t realize they were epileptic seizures catastrophic to a baby’s cognitive and motor development. The spasms continued and our baby’s developmental milestones disappeared. Finally, weeks later at the Medicine Hat hospital, a pediatrician witnessed a series ... Read More »

Memorization is a good first step in mathematics

By Letter to the Editor on December 8th, 2017

Re: “Personal experience says progressive education — not regressive — is the best way to learn,” Nov. 18 Did Peter Mueller go all the way through school without realizing the memorized portions of the subject are useful tools which, once learned, facilitate one’s subsequent math operations? Standard items like times tables, measurements, theorems, basic arithmatic ... Read More »

Closure leaves a void for shoppers

By Letter to the Editor on December 6th, 2017

What does the closing of the Sears in Medicine Hat this fall say? It means customers who purchased appliances and had warranties on them, may not be able to get the service they need. What changed at the Medicine Hat location over the years? There used too be a music department and a restaurant in ... Read More »

Misconduct on both sides

By Letter to the Editor on December 6th, 2017

Re: “Poisonous partisanship at the ballot box,” Dec. 2 The guest column amuses me because out of all the editorial pieces I have read in the Medicine Hat News Peter Mueller’s are by far the most partisan of all. His latest partisan crock of snivel drama would have everyone believing that the Republicans south of ... Read More »

Bill 24 has attacked the family unit and is both mean-spirited and malicious

By Letter to the Editor on December 1st, 2017

Bill 24 has now become law in Alberta. According to Education Minister David Eggen, Bill 24 has amended the Education Act so that parents may not be advised even upon request if their child (from Grade 1 to 12) has become involved in a gay-straight alliance in school and if the child does not want ... Family has no say in their loved one’s life

By Letter to the Editor on December 1st, 2017

My mother in law was born and raised in Medicine Hat 91 years ago. Last year we decided as a family to look into an old-age home for her and her husband. All was taken care of. All we needed was her family doctor to sign the papers to have them placed into a home. ... Read More »
