Letter: AISH changes will only add unnecessary stress to medical system

By Letter to the Editor on September 4, 2025.

Dear editor,

I did the survey for the proposed ADAP program the other day. It took about 20 minutes, and everyone should do it – it is very eye opening.

Like all Alberta government surveys they are skewed to the government point of view, but if you are determined you can get your point of view across in the comments.

Their examples have two disabled people who are young who end up working 20 hours a week and 40 hours a week respectively after going through some government training.

I can’t imagine anyone I know on AISH who can work that long outside the home. I know both my son and I are autistic and I can be outside of the home for three hours tops, and him for two, due to sensory overload.

I don’t think any amount of government training can cut down our sensory overload. The AISH program is fine how it is and enables people to work what they can without losing the benefits.

The government did not have to develop a whole new program, they just had to add to it and change it a bit. The entire AISH program is only 2% of the government budget.

The province is causing a whole lot of stress among the most vulnerable of Alberta whose conditions simply cannot take such stress.

This population is becoming more ill because of this proposed changes in AISH and putting unnecessary added strain on our medical system.

There isn’t a week goes by when these fake conservatives, Reformers, aren’t attacking another part of our population while they continue to help the rich steal our oil and corporate taxes making it impossible for them to finance our services properly and blaming all problems on the Liberals.

On the news in Edmonton this morning our Health Minister was trying to explain why they need to charge for our Covid vaccines. She claims they had to destroy $44 million worth of vaccines that expired in the past. So this time they are blaming the people for it when they were the ones who found it smart to compare us to Nazis when we got vaccinated, so many people didn’t bother.
I wonder how stupid LaGrange thinks we are ?
Yet they had no problem wasting $75 million on children’s cold medicine and $142 million on settling a Coal Industry lawsuit that they are credited with creating when they tried to outsmart Trudeau and destroyed Lougheed’s protection on our mountains. Don’t you think they should be held financially responsible for causing this cost to the people?

It’s like these Reformers led by Pierre Poilievre wanting to Axe the Tax and ignore the pollution being created, showing no respect for what Global Warming is doing to the planet and health problems it creates for children and seniors. Especially when 73 countries around the world are desperately trying to help their children do something about it.
Where is the intelligence in watching these Reformers wanting it destroyed?
