Dear editor, The Alberta Government announced last week a new program called Alberta Disability Assistant Program (ADAP), which will see some people on AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped) moved into that program. Who goes into the program will be determined by a pool of government assessors, or your own doctor, who will fill out a government form. This has upset the disabled community who are on AISH who, if they could work, they would be working by now. The date for implementation is set for 2026, so it can be an election issue because the next provincial election is in the spring of 2027. There are already government programs to help the disabled get jobs. If the provincial government really cared about people on AISH they would not be cutting back benefits such as the units of scaling of teeth so that most people can only get to 8U a year. This means people who are taking medications that are hard on their teeth can only get their teeth cleaned once a year.
