Letter: Secondiak’s story inspiring others to do what they can to make life better for those around them

By Letter to the Editor on September 21, 2022.

In response to “Compassion over charges” published Sept. 16 in the News

Dear editor,

Thank you, Insp. Brent Secondiak, for showing your compassionate and caring nature in the aftermath of the theft of your shoes from your front doorstep.

Even more than that, thank you for sharing this heartwarming story with the rest of us. So often as flawed human beings, we rush to judgement, indignation and want nothing more than justice for ourselves. Looking at the other person’s situation in life is so important if we want peace in our world. You not only forgave the theft, you showed kindness by listening to the person’s story.

By purchasing new shoes for the individual who stole your shoes because his had holes in them, you proved you not only strive to keep peace in our community but are willing to rise above and beyond the incident to show obvious caring for people who are going through rough times.

Your story touched me deeply and I’m so glad you shared it. I can only imagine how touched the individual was by your kindness to him.

To you and to me and so many others, it is as simple as buying a new pair of shoes. We often take for granted that we can buy what we want or need, but there are so many people who cannot just go out and buy something they need.

I urge people to look further than the obvious in their daily lives and do what they can to make life better for those around them. That is what will bring our world peace and justice. God bless you, Insp. Secondiak – you have my utmost respect and gratitude. You make our world a better place just by being here.

True charity and compassion is done anonymously and without the need of recognition. Typical virtue signaling.
