By Letter to the Editor on March 25, 2022.
Dear editor, I found the piece from Russell Scherer in the Tuesday, March 15 edition of the News a marvellous bit of profound wisdom. He skillfully said and wrote some great truths. He’ll have found there are many subscribers to the News and others, who will fully agree with him. Russell is obviously a human being that has been brought up to always use candour and search for the ‘whole’ story about a situation. He also seems to know the Bible, without, I suppose, being a somewhat ‘Bible-thumping fanatical Christian,’ of which there are far too many, especially in a country just south of us. He could never be accused of misinformation, using half-truths, exaggerating, misquoting, inciting folks… in contrast to the March 15 letter from an old acquaintance of mine, John MacLaren. John certainly could be accused of misquoting, using words like amicably, quoting something he heard when it was obvious at the late stage of that totally unlawful, loud profane, angry mob in diesel fume-spreading large semis, that if Trudeau had come out to address that unruly ‘freedom’ shouting mass of angry mob – already infiltrated by extreme right-wing elements, not understanding the real meaning of freedom nor the benefits of vaccine shots – it would not turn out ‘amicably,’ possibly even violent, but certainly raucous and hateful. Personally, I found it a wise decision by Trudeau. If he had come to address them, he would not only be threatened but would give the whole affair an aura of legitimacy, which it did not deserve. Oh, if anyone wonders if I am ‘Liberally inclined;’ NO, definitely not. Ted Kohlmetz Medicine Hat 11
