Letter: Friesen a trailblazer for women to follow

Dear editor, I am so looking forward to the swearing in of our new mayor and council on Nov. 1. It is exciting to see this contingent of competent, capable women take their seats at the council table. Prior to the ceremony, I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the incomparable Julie Friesen for her years of service to our beautiful city. Julie, you are a leader, a trailblazer, for so long, the only woman in an overwhelmingly male-dominated political arena. You served with grace and aplomb, never losing sight of your reason for being on council, to contribute to the city you love and build a good quality of life for Hatters. You have paved the way for women and girls to build their careers in municipal politics and I have no doubt you have inspired some of the women who will take their oath of office on Monday. I worked in a world of finance with mainly women for 32 years and I am not ashamed to admit they are a lot smarter on average than us men. Especially when it comes to finances.

I think most women are a hell of a lot smarter than you. The ones I worked with certainly were.
Have you noticed that you seem to be the only one left supporting your Liberal turned Reformer friend Jason Kenney and can you see any reason why people who lost a loved one to covid because of the way it was handled shouldn’t sue Kenney and you for ignoring the mess Kenney created?
Lawyers tell us that it would likely cost at least $50,000. to hire a lawyer and it costs $7,000. per day for court costs.It could financially ruin these ignorant seniors and their families very quickly.
A farmer told me years ago that he had fence posts that were smarter than these fools who were supporting Klein. I think he was right, the facts certainly prove it. I know what the true conservatives in my world have called them. There is certainly nothing conservative about them and are traitors for not helping us defend what Lougheed created for us.
My late father , the strongest conservative I have ever known, would say these fools vote for the word conservative and are so stupid they don’t care who is hiding behind the name. You could call a bale of hay a conservative and they would vote for it.
