Krause presented credible information

By Letter to the Editor on March 7, 2019.

Re: “Vivian Krause headlines fundraiser for Barnes,” March 1

The article spent more time challenging her credibility, than actually commenting on the content of her presentation. It should come as no surprise that industry groups, affected by what she has discovered, would pay to hear her speak. If an environmentalist group pays someone like Dr. Suzuki to speak to them, how is this any different?

I was in attendance at that fundraiser, and the data and the evidence that she presented was exceptionally credible and well researched. It was obvious to everyone in attendance there is a concerted effort to land lock Alberta petroleum under the guise of environmental activism.

In her presentation, she acknowledged there are serious environmental issues that must be addressed when it comes to petroleum production, but there was no evidence that the same resistance to Alberta petroleum production was being applied to American production.

We live in a world where confirmation bias often limits our understanding of important issues. I challenge those who strongly oppose Alberta petroleum production to take the time to educate themselves on both sides of the issue, as I have tried, and learn about what Ms. Krause has discovered. I’m not asking them to change their views. I just think it is important for them to learn who is pulling their strings, and to question all the motivations of both the groups they belong to, and who is funding them.

As to the article itself, journalists are just like everyone else, they are wholly entitled to their own personal political and social beliefs, however journalism should not be as biased as this article was.
