Re: “B.C. needs your sympathy,” Aug 22. Yes, Mr. MacLaren, I can imagine the uproar from B.C. if they were dealing with Alberta smoke. Protesters of all description would no doubt be on the move, financed by who and how we know not. Our lovely, unbiased media, especially CBC would certainly drone on. Unfortunately the wind usually blows west to east and north to south in this country. We do have to love this confederation we have because without it we have no Canada. I share your federal frustration. The “Laurentian Donahue” and his band of Suzuki-ite circus seals are not ruling this country in Canadians’ best interests. We have democratic recourse in the 2019 federal election. But have you ever heard of “divide and conquer”? Sounds kind of like “diversity is our strength.” I believe there are politics at play here between Alberta and B.C. and all over Canada. According to some sources, the majority of B.C. residents support the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. I believe there is good and bad everywhere there is people. Our challenge going forward in Canada is to work, talk, plan and live together with people we don’t necessarily agree with. We should blaze this new trail in history for our common best interest and our survival as a nation and species. Unity is our strength. Understanding is our spirit. Love is our sword and shield. Gee Leath I wonder why our oilmen have been stating for years that if we don’t do something about our pollution our children are going to face massive lawsuits, or don’t you care? Where were you when our hero Peter Lougheed was trying to get the Klein and Stelmach governments to slow down the growth of the oilsands and get control of our pollution? The wind does blow west to east and studies prove that 70% of our pollution is drifting into Saskatchewan and is having an effect on the water and soil in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, so why wouldn’t we be at risk of lawsuits?
What upsets us seniors the most is a lot of our fellow seniors show no concern what so ever for the future of our children. Let our children deal with it seems to be plan.
Maybe you should all read “Oil sands Development polluting Alberta lakes: Study” We can’t afford to have our water polluted and I’m certain most of you agree with me.
The big question is why aren’t we allowing the democratic process and allowing all Albertans and British Columbians to vote on it? Leath is right most B.C. residents support it, why let a few ruin it for all Canadians?
