Dear editor, So now we suspect the former British Prince Andrew hid a rotten moral and ethical core. Ditto for high mucky-muck politicians such as Donald Trump, Bill Clinton et al and their billionaire buddies and elite party-providers, such as the now deceased Jeffrey Epstein and his imprisoned partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. Rotten, rotten, rotten behaviour from people we’re supposed to look up to and emulate. The law is for the plebs and the grunts; not for the gilded wealthy and influential. Not to be forgotten are the gaudy, rich televangelists preaching in their megachurches who beg for donations preying (not praying) on the gullible masses. Rotten, rotten, rotten behaviour from supposed-pastors using our guilt from childhood religious indoctrination to grift donations from many who can ill afford to give. What does this constant mind-bending bombardment of rotten, rotten, rotten behaviour on mainstream and social media do our susceptible, warp-able psyches? Can we still see the overwhelming good in most people despite the onslaught of negativity? It used to be a thing for those in high political, social and religious places to set a good example, especially for youth, but really for everyone. Now, that sad, sad, rot is visible. A big problem is we overgeneralize and begin to unfairly suspect everyone in authority positions of underlying rottenness, because we all know what runs downhill. But it’s so hard to avoid the current mental minefield. Ray Marco Dunmore 12
