Dear editor, Having lived/worked in this region of the Prairies all my life and as a descendant of a NWMP/ranching family that arrived in 1884/86, I am “way past tolerant” with the current Alberta sovereignty and separatist rhetoric. In addition to my family helping settle this region, I had a great uncle who survived the horrors of the First World War and an uncle, who died in the Second World War. These men, along with numerous other relatives, friends and neighbours, gave of themselves for the ideals and values of this great country. I now ask myself for what. Only to see a group of entitled, naive, misinformed, band-wagon enthusiasts, determined to embrace an ideology spouted by a leader, whose actual credentials and knowledge too often has been limited to short-term, self-serving political strategy and rhetoric. A leader, who along with her minions, is planting the seeds of fear, anxiety and doubt in its population rather than inspiration and hope. A leader who, along with her advisers, curries favour from the despot(s) to the south and actively works toward dismantling our health-care and education systems, who covets “my pension”, who touts a “sovereign” Alberta, which in turns encourages separatist rhetoric. Personally, I am disgusted with the recent seditious behaviour of some of her followers and vehemently oppose any attempts to align ourselves with the demagogs to the south and exhort the present UCP government to keep their hands off my pension, respect our province and our country, and focus as much attention into making the present system work as they do to tearing it apart. Quit whining and celebrate how fortunate we are to live in this great country. A country the rest of the world by any measure envies. Donny White Medicine Hat 9
Great letter Donny. I completely agree!
