Letter: Isn’t it time we have a regular voice on decisions affecting our lives?

By Letter to the Editor on October 16, 2025.

Dear editor,

The only logical conclusion I can reasonably resolve regarding the current political system is devastation.

Every policy and decision appears to cause impairment opposed to progress and advancement. We are transparently witnessing the weakening of our health care, housing, food supply, freedom of speech, charter of rights, medical freedoms, economy, criminal laws, and viewing the promotion of ideologies, debt, political persecutions, censorship and government-controlled media.

I curiously estimate how many citizens both Canadian and worldwide are observing the current affairs of our outdated, inadequate government platform set up to police itself without accountability.

Let’s face it, the current government system is obsolete, it is desperately behind the times. It neither reflects our current educational status nor capabilities. If we don’t seriously update and reform our systems to reflect the authentic needs of the people, the powerful minority will continue to run, influence, infiltrate and direct our governments to promote their agendas rather than that of the citizens.

We need to ask ourselves; has apathy become our biggest enemy? Do we believe someone else will magically improve, advance and provide our most fundamental basic needs and goals? Have Canadians become so trusting, reliant and comfortable in our entitled existence that we have forgotten to be responsible for our own essential needs?

I implore fellow Canadians to begin thinking about these questions. Begin having conversations regarding what could best represent our society; speak with your MPs regarding introducing bills to update our current systems to include more consensual input from the people, ask to upgrade the laws to ensure transparency and accountability so our systems can not be breached, ensuring they are immune to corruption.

We have the technology, we have the education, we have the capability to create an advanced governance which will allow people regular input with current technologies. Isn’t it time we have a regular voice on the decisions that effect our daily lives, our children’s lives, our countries future?
