Letter: Wright’s column statements need clarification

By Letter to the Editor on September 25, 2025.

Re: MLA Report: From bell curve to bell and well curve: A call for good people to act, by Justin Wright on Sept. 17.

Dear MLA Wright,

In your column, you assert that “people stopped talking, stopped connecting, and became more disconnected from the community around them. They started building walls…”

Could you clarify which community you are referring to? Is this the community you represent as MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat?

Later, you discuss “changing a nation.” Does this indicate a shift from focusing on a local community to a national perspective? You also state, “If we remain on the current path, moral confusion and increasing polarization will likely continue.”

Could you specify which path you mean, and whether this observation applies to your constituency or the nation at large?

Toward the end of your column, you mention reflecting on quotes by Edmund Burke and Charlie Kirk. However, it is unclear what conclusions or reflections you have drawn.

Could you elaborate on this reflection for your constituents? You conclude by saluting Charlie Kirk, stating that his “mission is over and ours is just beginning.” Could you clarify the nature of this mission and how it relates to your responsibilities as MLA?

For context, here are some recent statements by Charlie Kirk: – “If I see a black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified.” – “If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic black woman, I wonder is she there because of her excellence, or is she there because of affirmative action?” – “Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge.” (Discussing the news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement) – “We need to have a Nuremberg-style trial for every gender-affirming clinic doctor. We need it immediately.” – “Islam is the sword the left is using to slit the throat of America.” – “We’ve been warning about the rise of Islam on the show, to great amount of backlash. We don’t care, that’s what we do here. And we said that Islam is not compatible with western civilization.”

Given these statements, and the fact that you have titled this as a “call for good people to act,” I am seeking clarity on how you define your constituents and the mission you are encouraging them to participate in.

Does this mission consider the diversity within your constituency, including Black, feminist and Muslim members? I appreciate your clarification on these points, as it will help constituents better understand your perspective and the objectives you advocate.

Sincerely,

Anna Hansen

Medicine Hat

Excellent letter, Anna. It’s highly unlikely we will get any clarification from MLA Justin Wright about his scattershot opinion column that raises sime serious questions about Wright’s affiliation with racist and misogynist thinking.

Excellent letter which further confirms MLA Wright’s perspective and outlook on life….one of misogyny, racism and elitism….shameful. Please resign!

Once again Justin Wright has proven time and time again there is nothing conservative about him while he helps his Reform Party pals treat Albertans like Morons showing no respect for what they are doing to our children and grandchildren’s future racking up billions of dollars in debt, and he doesn’t are, does he?
Praising these Right-wing extremist doesn’t make him look very smart does it?
He is just like Danielle Smith and her pal Pierre Poilievre they love Donald Trump and just like Trump they don’t care what they do to Canadians.

Great letter Anna. We must always remember that when someone shows you who they are, believe them. We see you Justin Wright.
