Ticked Off Why are dirt bikes allowed on the road? You can hear them blocks away. Ticked Off I am 87 years old and really should have a medical alert device as I live alone but I can’t afford the $40 plus every month that it costs. Is there any help for the cost? Tickled Pink If those 30% voting for hand counting would try it for themselves. Eons ago when working elections, hand counting was often done by ‘Pete, Repeat and Repeat III’. Daily we use our cell phone, grocery tills, odometer/speedometer, gas pumps, ATMs – and the electronic counters list is endless. But oddly now, municipal election counters are a problem? Oh brother. Tickled Pink Absolutely love someone’s idea of putting up a big Alberta flag at the old Husky. Or at least bring back the Canadian flag; I miss it. Tickled Pink At the fact-based realities of the UCP under Danielle Smith’s reign as highlighted in a latest letter to the editor. How refreshing to see others who are not succumbing to the insanity she has unleashed on all Albertans. Ticked Off To the writer from Brooks who endorsed Drew Barnes, you moved away and obviously have not kept up with this candidate’s recent actions over the past few years, including getting kicked out of the Alberta government. Sure, just what we need. Tickled Pink I would be if Premier Smith stopped wasting time on all of the nonsense few are interested in and got back to work trying to fix our health care and education systems, which is what she was elected to do. Ticked Off City removing the links to candidates under the umbrella of privacy is ridiculous. This makes it harder for people to find their websites to identify who to vote for. Need one location to find all candidates’ info. Yes, articles are great but harder to cross reference. Ticked Off Please think carefully about who you vote for when it comes to the city council candidates. If you read the News candidate biographies, carefully between the lines, it is clear that more than a few are in it for the paycheques and do not bring a good business sense or management ability to the council table. Ticked Off I and many voters do not trust people hand counting our municipal voting cards. How do we know counters hired are not paid or bribed? Tickled Pink I loved the last Ticked & Tickled posts. Great read which made me smile, thanks! Tickled Pink Thank you, Bill Cocks, for running for council! Your experience and knowledge is what’s desperately needed in this city. Ticked Off That we haven’t joined the States yet. But if we wait long enough, we won’t be worth anything, so they won’t want us. Ticked Off The lights on the Southview tennis courts don’t come on until it’s practically dark. Sure would be nice if they came on 30-45 minutes earlier. Tickled Pink Our current mayor is running for a second term. Thank you. Hopefully next term all new council members fit in and are heard by everyone. Ticked Off Our city can’t afford to be the laughing stock of Canada for another four years. Ticked Off It is sad the city wants to spend millions on Third Street NW and yet they can’t even maintain it. It’s seldom plowed in the winter, and pot holes are never filled in the summer. In my opinion, it is one of the worst roads in the city. Ticked Off Premier Smith says there is no money for teacher wage increases AND hiring more teachers. However, Smith seems to think there is money for establishing an Alberta Pension Plan and an Alberta police force – both things the majority of Albertans have clearly said they do not want – while also spending a lot of money to promote these ideas. Can’t wait for the 2026 provincial election. Ticked Off So a Janet Brown poll found 2 in 3 Albertans want municipal candidates to be independent. I am firmly in the 2 category and get super ticked off when I see municipal candidates flying a party flag. Guess it narrows the field for me because I can immediately dismiss them as someone I have to check out for my vote. Ticked Off With the number of drivers who seem to think it’s optional whether you stop for a pedestrian at a cross walk (or worse, press the gas pedal). Kind of wish there was a form of red light cameras, for crosswalks. Tickled Pink Very happy to see Cocks and Varga running for council. The experience, professionalism and diplomacy they will bring to the table, or horse shoe rather, will be a welcome change. Tickled Pink I would be if people would read the Kingsgate Legal report to see what our mayor was like. This is fact, not hearsay or emotion. Read it and inform yourself. Please do not vote on emotion and re-elect our mayor. It would truly be a huge mistake for our city and the next council. Tickled Pink Super happy our mayor is running again. Now I know I can vote in the election for a candidate I can vote for. Ticked Off I can’t believe people in Medicine Hat would entertain voting for Ms. Clark. She has been an abject failure for four years. Tickled Pink With the Toy Run pancake breakfast at the Irvine Hotel. What a well organized crew. Tickled Pink If the News did a story explaining a “kangaroo board” and secondly how it is used to count votes. Because I’ve searched and searched online and lots of interesting answers came up but none that explain. Interestingly breaking reporting rules all across the country are newspapers suddenly mentioning them with no one ever explaining. (Editor’s note: The story came out Sept. 10, it is called “City will use ‘Kangaroo Board’ hand counting method in upcoming election,” and it explains the entire process. After we write it, the ball really is in your court at that point.) Ticked Off Why is it impossible for some dog owners to abide by on-leash rules? School playgrounds are on-leash. Your dog can’t play fetch there, run free, etc. just because it’s convenient or easier for you. Some of us prefer to walk our dogs in on-leash areas and when your dog is there running all over the place, it’s annoying. Go to the off-leash areas if you want your dog to run free. Ticked Off With Premier Smith. She couldn’t be bothered to go with Premier Moe and federal officials on an agricultural trade mission to China. But if it were for the Oil sector, she’d be leading the charge! Tickled Pink Loved the letter regarding Alberta Next panel distraction. It was to the point. Smith doesn’t want Albertans to focus on health care and education. Ticked Off Just got notice the postal union is now “banning delivery of fliers.” Canada Post is struggling financially. The union wants more money. So their not so brilliant idea is to sabotage another revenue stream? Moronic. Ticked Off Still think if separated. Our vote in Alberta would count for the majority. Not for the east making the decision before even counting in Alberta. 63
