Dear editor, Concerned citizens attended the Alberta Prosperity Project presentation held in Redcliff. The talk was an orchestrated presentation of misinformation mixed with the zeal of a Christian Nationalism rally. Hung up on the Trudeau war cry (someone please update them), they presented misleading information on COVID and vaccines, at times referring to a globalist agenda. They claimed an Alberta Pension Plan would be a wonderful financial choice to make; promising us they “want to give us more money. They claimed Alberta pays more than we get back. At best, this is a faulty approach. This is dependant on demographics. None of us know what that will be in the future. Quebec now has a higher Minimum Contribution Rate of 10.8% for their pension because of this. The population of younger people compared to an older demographic, is lower than when it started. The MCR for CPP is lower at 9.56% and will drop to 9.54% when amortization ends. Alberta has a transient workforce, tied to volatility of oil prices. From 2015-17 we had a net outflow of 15,000 workers, compared to a normal influx of 35,000. This means fewer paying into that Alberta Pension, which could affect stability and contribution rates over time. This is not Alberta’s money. It is the employees’ money, deducted from their pay cheques, no matter where they choose to live in Canada. It is said, that if every province wants to leave the CPP on the same day, the fund will need to facilitate that. Presenting an Alberta share of 53% (AB government report), does not support this. A blatant misrepresentation. The government should not manage the money. This is risky at best, depending on who is influencing decision making. Finally, let us address the end game of separation, which will not happen for reasons too numerous to list. As Canada is facing threats from the U.S., this kind of talk is abhorrent. We need to stand together, not generate rhetoric based on misinformation that further divides. Canada is truly a great country, and we should all be thankful we live here. Very well said Shelley, Betty, Michelle and Kym!
Thank you for saying what a lot of us are thinking and feeling.
We need more people like you to stand up and counteract this garbage, anti-Canadian rhetoric.
While Smith desperately wants Poilievre elected so he will help her steal our Canada Pension Plan lawyer friends and relatives warn that her game plan could be disastrous for Alberta seniors. Including seniors who have blindly supported her.
There will be nothing stopping her from cancelling pension plans where seniors have received more than what they put into it like we know we have, so why would you help Poilievre get elected so he could help her financial destroy us?
She is already getting our healthcare system ready for him to help her privatize it, isn’t she?
While 10 of us seniors came down with COVID after having 4 shots and had Danielle Smith compare us to Nazis for doing so, everyone of us knows that the shots saved our lives because fools we know who didn’t bother are all dead . Wouldn’t you think these fools who are claiming that the shots don’t work would be smart enough to notice that while our friends in Nursing Homes were dropping like flies before the shots came but we haven’t heard of one case since?
Without modern medical technology, the lifespan of people would be shorter than it is today. Anyone who was around in the 1940s, or earlier, will know this. One of my paternal uncles was an infant when he passed away in the mid 1920s. There are many people who were born in the 1940s, or earlier, who had siblings who passed away at a young age, because the medical advances weren’t there.
