Letter: Column on our place in Canada thoughtfully spoke to how many feel

Dear editor,

Scott Schmidt’s article in Saturday’s Medicine Hat News should have been on the front page. I felt he expressed our current political situation in Alberta very well.

I am grateful to have been born in Canada. I started out in Saskatchewan and it is still dear to me. I have lived here in Medicine Hat for 60 happy years and have travelled to many parts of Canada – feeling at home in all the provinces – including Quebec.

And I have travelled to a number of countries over the years and learned that Canadians are respected, and sometimes envied!

I do not understand the idea that Alberta should separate from Canada. I appreciate and pray that we can maintain our democracy and sovereignty which seems to be under threat at this time. I hope to see more thoughtful comments by Scott!
