Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Jan. 7, 2025

Ticked Off

That grocery stores don’t haul those monstrous piles of snow away. They are taking parking spaces, and when it eventually starts to melt there will be a mess for weeks.

Tickled Pink

We write little notes about happy moments in our lives and put them in a “Happy Jar” on the counter. New Year’s Day we go through all the notes and relive the happy moments from the year before.

Ticked Off

In a recent interview Danielle Smith, Alberta’s premier, or not so, claimed her greatest achievement the past year was breaking up the health-care system into a multitude of parts. Somehow that made it better. We will see. Think not.

Ticked Off

How is a person supposed to walk a dog when residential backalleys coming onto streets are a skating rink? No sand, no nothing.

Ticked Off

Not many people seem to know what a snow brush is for. Or maybe they do, but need to be shown how to use it.

Tickled Pink

Medicine Hat is fortunate to have very competent, considerate bus drivers. Those on the routes to Crescent Heights go out of their way to help seniors and those with mobility difficulties. May they have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025. They deserve it!

Ticked Off

Our ex mayor should be reminded of a well known idiom, “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

Tickled Pink

With Linda Tooth’s observation on Jan. 2: “All you have to do is look around to know that we have lost the ability to write and speak well.” Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Linda’s columns are always a joy to read and one of the biggest reasons I read the Medicine Hat News. Great stuff!

Ticked Off

With power/money hungry food stores. You can’t tell consumers that each article packaged in a box is affected by carbon tax. Explain, then, how prices in the U.S. have risen. It’s sure not from Canadians’ CT.

Tickled Pink

If someone would start a GoFundMe for the city to buy more sand and gravel for the roads. It’s so icy on the roadways.

Tickled Pink

If 2025 becomes the year our society begins to unequivocally punish malice, rather than choosing to accept mental illness as a default defence for criminal behaviour.

Ticked Off

The inauguration that the premier of Alberta and her “friends” are attending will cost in excess of US$250,000 using taxpayer money. Hope she notifies Elon Musk about Alberta’s new $200 tax on EVs.

Tickled Pink

With the excellent year-in-review article about the Veiner Centre. Very detailed and informative and will hopefully encourage more people to check it out. We really get a lot of benefits from our membership.

Tickled Pink

So pleased to be able to shop mostly smaller local stores all last year, and I plan to continue in 2025. There are some awesome stores in MH.

Ticked Off

Provincial governments announce rebate cheques ahead of an election and it is praised. But the sky is falling when it’s done by a federal government.

Ticked Off

Where are the expense receipts from city administration? This is taxpayer money, every dollar should be accounted for. Not providing this really has to make one question what is really going on.

Tickled Pink

I would if the city would arrange to take a survey of existing Big Marble Go Centre members and ask, “If we built a leisure centre in the south end of town, would you cancel your Big Marble membership and change to the new centre?” Because our current centre is so underutilized, I think we need a clear indication of how much usage would drop.

Ticked Off

Some homeowners continue to move snow from their driveway onto the street to impede driving, and it also contravenes a city bylaw. Apparently they don’t realize that snow on their lawn is a source of moisture.

Tickled Pink

Thanks to the kind person who blows snow off of the sidewalks on Church Court, it is much appreciated. I am unable to do snow due to health problems.

Tickled Pink

I would be if the province changed the rules so there was no specific election for mayor, but instead nine councillors elected who elect a mayor among themselves. Very similar to Cypress County. we have lost too many good councillors who ran for mayor, were defeated and then were out of civic politics.

Ticked Off

It is frustrating when struggling Albertans cannot get the tax break promised by our premier. Money for a war room and MLA travel seems to be unaffected by low oil prices.

Ticked Off

How many award shows do we have to endure so Hollywood people can keep convincing themselves they are important? Just imagine the good it could do to cancel one show, and use that money for the good of lots of people rather than the egotistical ones who have everything. And no, I don’t watch them.

Ticked Off

Why is it that Canadians can’t accept the fact that we are not the best in the world at hockey anymore? Do other countries have a meltdown if we beat them at their own game? It’s a game, people. No one was executed for losing.

Ticked Off

The nightmare that was Trudeau will soon be gone. He was arrogant and fake until the very end, and had the liberal media promoting him until the very end as well.

Tickled Pink

To have a whole new glut of things to talk about with Trudeau resigning. TO/TP gonna be lit for the next few months.
