Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Feb. 7

Ticked Off

Sad state off affairs regarding Alberta health care. Instead of barking at staff, take it out on our politicians. You voted them in!

Tickled Pink

Danielle Smith, thank you for the $100 bribe but I still won’t vote for you or the UCP.

Ticked Off

If the mayor thinks she is going to increase the population by 47,000 in 20 years, I’ve got some real estate in Florida I would like to sell her.

Tickled Pink

Tickled Pink by Mr. Briosi’s letter to the editor about the old and new arena. I completely agree and if the city would have listened to what taxpayers wanted it would not have been built where it currently is. I also think demolishing the old arena is ridiculous and could be used for many different purposes.

Ticked Off

Louder for the people in the back — freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences! It should be no surprise that when you say ignorant, non-factual and bigoted things, people aren’t going to want to give you a platform anymore. It’s not ‘woke politics’ or ‘mob mentality.’ It’s more like ‘F around and find out.’

Ticked Off

Self-served at stores may be saving the stores money… less cashiers. But more people are out of work, because of self-serve. Why can’t people get this? These stores care only about themselves, not those people who need a job.

Ticked Off

The relevancy of many civic organizations should be reevaluated. Just because a group was relevant 50 years ago does not mean it is relevant today. How many users does it have?

Tickled Pink

Tickled to learn that the old adage: location, location, location, really does apply! Co-op Place’s remote location fails visitor’s expectations when compared with Enmax in Lethbridge, which is ideally located in a ‘tourist-like area’ within the city proper! I have experienced Bryan Adams concerts at both places. It’s far more than great venues that attract paying customers to events, location is also a big factor! We may have to figure out a solution, likely involving free shuttling both visitors and locals to Co-op Place, in order to counter the Enmax location advantage!

Ticked Off

Self checkouts do not steal jobs like everyone says they do. It takes a team of people to design them, a team to build them, truckers to ship them, trade workers to install and maintain them, etc. While they do take away some entry-level jobs, they create more jobs than they take. If people weren’t so picky with jobs, companies wouldn’t have to bring more of them in.

Tickled Pink

It is getting closer to the local greenhouse fresh produce being available, can hardly wait.

Ticked Off

I’d prefer to not use self-checkouts and deal with a real human being, but I’m tired of having to talk to someone through plexiglass. When will stores wake up and get rid of the screens? If employees are too scared of germs, fire them, they should stay locked in their homes for safety.

Tickled Pink

“Self-checkout is taking away jobs!” Is just bad logic. Cashiers are simply being phased out due to advancements in technology, a process that has happened before and will continue to happen (see “Luddites”). Also, we could create a million jobs if we hired people for every menial task, it’d just be a huge waste of money. Benefits of self-checkouts include drastically shorter wait times and increased privacy. I don’t see why “but it was someone’s job” is such a huge hang up for people.

Tickled Pink

I am tickled pink with the self check-out as long as it functions along with regular cashiers. That one express line with one cashier was always packed and now that one person can look after several people at one time. At the end of the day, I am tired and just want to grab some milk or a few things and I do not want to stand in long lineups or behind people who have their carts full. This saves me time and money as I am not paying convenience store prices. No one lost their job as many people think, they just changed jobs.
