Letter: A ‘wonderful and heartening visit’ highlighted by insightful conversations

By Letter to the Editor on November 8, 2022.

Dear editor,

Visiting from Ottawa, a “Flash of winter” was turned into a “Harbinger of spring” by our experience in the Hat. Going to and coming from dinner we used the services of Care Cab, a local taxi company. The service was excellent by both drivers and the person with disabilities and a ¨walker” who was with us was served with great care and skill.

But far and beyond the excellent service each driver provided were the exceptional comments and observations each made about important matters. These comments included: the wisdom of city council in keeping cab service local and the benefits to drivers and citizens alike; the advantages of snow cover for agricultural crops and the water table; the need for province-wide consideration of safety issues regarding vehicles in the winter.

They did not seek to dig for my biases, but spoke freely and clearly about serious and important matters that are of concern to us all.

No matter that the weather outside blustered and blew ferociously cold.

For me and my companions the good sense and depth of understanding these drivers exemplified were sure signs of spring.

Thank you, citizens of the Hat, for a wonderful and heartening visit.
