Letter: We’ve come a long way, baby!

By Letter to the Editor on November 25, 2021.

Dear editor,

The older I get the more amusing things seem to be. Maybe even a chuckle or two!

There is big headline news nowadays in regard to self driving vehicles. Experiments and development are going, flat out costing billions of dollars. Wow, soon you will be able to go from home to work, work to home, or anywhere you desire hands free – the vehicles will be and actually are so techie that some drivers are falling asleep behind the wheel. Not so good from a safety standpoint.

If we roll back the clock 150 years, my maternal grandfather was a dairy farmer in Derby, England. He delivered his milk to households door to door. His last customer was a pub, so he always had a pint or two at this last delivery. After having his beer, grandpa would point the horse home, lay back in the milk cart seat and sleep all the way home. The horse stopped at the barn door. All those years ago grandpa had a self-driving vehicle and no pollution. Well, any pollution was used as fertilizer!

Nowadays, they are trying to replicate what grandpa had in 1871!

That has to be worth a chuckle or two!
