Mask debate continues

By Letter to the Editor on September 30, 2020.

The potential influence of local mask survey results are concerning. Many older citizens, and others not online, were unable to participate in the recent Chamber of Commerce survey, where results did not favour mandating mask wearing.

The smaller “News” survey results do not agree with the COC results, and in fact are entirely opposite, with 47 per cent favouring masks. However, these results are also concerning because only online subscribers were able to vote.

Advice from the experts must prevail here, and our safety protocols should not be influenced by such survey results.

Mask wearing should be mandated to protect everyone during this unprecedented pandemic based on tragic outcomes elsewhere, where such obvious simple safety protocols were ignored and only accepted and imposed, as a last minute resort.

Finally, I am left wondering just how much influence mandating mask wearing in Lethbridge may have contributed to their two active COVID cases, compared to our 10, as reported in the “News” on Thursday, Sept. 24.
