In Canada we don’t have the right to be wrong

By Letter to the Editor on January 26, 2019.

Re: “Let’s not be fooled by wind and solar,” Jan. 16

The writer contends that “the Canadian public has been conditioned to believe that man-made CO2 is added to the atmosphere.” This conclusion is not supported by proof, without which it is meaningless. In doing so he must rebuff the evidence of 18 scientific societies listed on NASA’s website whose own conclusion is “Observations throughout the world make it clear that climate change is occurring, and rigorous scientific research demonstrates that the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are the primary driver.” If the writer has proof, he should enlighten us otherwise his words smack of ignorance and paranoia.

Paleontologist Stephen Gould declared that “In science, ‘fact’ can only mean ‘confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent’.” We may have freedom of expression in Canada but we do not have the right to be wrong.
