Re: “Free parking back after outcry,” Dec. 14 The recent comment by Grant MacKay, general manager of the city’s business support and land department, demonstrates how our civic government is out of touch with what residents want. He said that “parking” is not part of their mandate. Part of the mandate to manage land inventory would include green space, multi-residential, commercial and associated parking requirements. To state this is not their job is to dodge the responsibility they have. This is how we end up with the Primrose situation and the current downtown parking problem. My view is this city is being run by the civic employees who pass their ideas to our civic government and the council approves with little consideration. I know city staff sees no problem with parking since they can use the underground heated parking at city hall. I call upon our elected officials to assume responsibility for the operation of our city, so we can avoid situations such as the misguided transit expense. I believe there are only two councillors who have the best interest in the wellbeing of Medicine Hat. Alan Rose Medicine Hat 8
