Western Canada knows the importance of investment in projects and infrastructure to provide energy to millions. World Bank president Jim Kim thinks investment in people is actually more important for economic growth. The federal government has another chance to invest, this time in people, to the tune of just $240 million. The Global Financing Facility is the “fixer” for health and nutrition funding for women, children and adolescents in the 50 most-needy countries. Created in 2015, it coordinates funds and loans from myriad investment sources around the world. It’s not very sexy work, but millions more are now accessing quality health and nutrition services with support of the GFF, its co-financiers and private sector partners. It is worthy of Canada’s continued support. Next month, when replenishment is required, we must ensure this GFF funding pipeline remains open. Randy Rudolph Calgary 5
