I’m a member of a Facebook Neighbourhood Watch group. It is a community-based group that tries and inform the members of suspicious activities and property stolen in Medicine Hat and surrounding areas. I and many more have noticed that bicycles are being stolen at epidemic proportions. Most of these bikes taken are not because it’s a crime of convenience because many are locked and some are even double locked. My neighbour had her son’s bike taken from her front yard. How do you explain to a nine-year-old that someone stole his bike? I think Medicine Hat and Redcliff should go back to the days when every bike must be registered and have a visible license plate on it. If the bike does not have a plate on it, the police can stop and inspect the bike. Right now we have people that are riding stolen bikes with impunity. I am sure most people would be happy to pay $10 to register their bike if it would help recover it. Les Landry Redcliff, Alta. 7
