November is Family Violence Prevention Month and I think the best way of preventing this is healthy relationships. I know that there is a lot of domestic violence towards women who have a disability. Often this is because we grow up feeling isolated with very low self-esteem and are very good targets for men who turn out to be abusive. Once in a marriage it is even more difficult to leave because we are disabled and have trouble supporting ourselves. So when we think of healthy relationships we need to think of the self-esteem of both girls and boys and respect for everyone in society. Diane MacNaughton Medicine Hat 6
