Rose Marie Hirsch of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late John Hirsch, passed away on Friday, April 17th, 2015 at the age of 95 years. Rose leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Linda (Lloyd) Chandler and Merle (Bryan) Ellerman, and their families. 1932 ~ BURGESS ~ 2015

Elaine (Horst) Burgess of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 at the Carmel Hospice St. Joseph's Home in Medicine Hat at the age of 82 years. Elaine was born on August 10th, 1932 in Calgary and raised in the Cabri, Saskatchewan District. After graduation from high school, she made a trip with her father to Victoria, BC and took up residence there starting night classes. Elaine married a year later and lived in Victoria for ten years, where her four oldest children were born. While her children were young, Elaine joined the Victoria Women's Army Corps Reserve. In 1961, the family relocated to Medicine Hat and Elaine finished her business courses at Garbutt's Business School. Her youngest and last son was born in Medicine Hat. Elaine had a particular soft spot for animals of all kinds and the family home was always full of a menagerie of sorts (cats, dogs, chickens, parakeets, horses) – often strays brought home by one or another of her children. Elaine retired in 1997 following 37 years in the work force. She enjoyed her retirement by golfing, bowling, volunteer work and travelling with her brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Joyce. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Lila Horst; brothers, Kenny and Hank Horst; nephew, Steven Horst; and birthmother, Jean Mehrer. Always the one who kept the family together, Elaine will be sadly missed by her children, Thomas (Wendy), Michael (Dalyce), Debra (Bob) Davis, James (Nancy) and Alan (Shelly); eight grandchildren, Jenny (Shawn), Katie, Jordan (Jessica), Marc, Myles (Danielle), Eric, Nicholas and Kenny; two great- granddaughters, Hailey and Carly; and great-grandson, Benjamin. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Joyce and Mary Horst, two nieces, three nephews and extended family as well as her half siblings, Florence, Pat and Allan. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. 1942 ~ LAUBENSTEIN ~ 2015

Rudolf "Rudy" Laubenstein, beloved husband of Rosemarie Laubenstein of Redcliff, passed away on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 at the age of 73 years. Rudy also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Murray Laubenstein (Leslie Drader) of Redcliff, Ken (Yvonne) Laubenstein of Calgary, Terry (Pam) Laubenstein of Rolling Hills, and Susan (Rod) Fischer of Redcliff; six grandchildren, Sasha Tierlie and her daughter, Emily, Ryan Laubenstein and his son, Logan, Harley Laubenstein, Kalee Laubenstein, Melanie Fischer, and Blane Fischer; one brother, Gunther (Diane) Laubenstein of Burdett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rudy was predeceased by his parents, Friedrich and Katharina Laubenstein; one brother, Adolf Laubenstein; one sister-in-law, Sharon Fischer; and mother and father-in-law, Ben and Esther Sulz. Rudy loved car racing, motorcycles, and camping. His other interests included reading, watching TV, and his tropical fish. He was especially fond of his dogs, Wrinkles and Simba. ELAINE ELL

1938 – 2015
Elaine Rose Ell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015 in Bow Island, after a very short battle with cancer.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1113 – 1 Street East, Bow Island on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 7:00 P.M.

Elaine is survived by her loving mother Mary, brother Raymond (Terry) Ell of Adelaide, Australia, sister Marilyn (Earl) Weatherhead of Burdett, sister-in-law Juanita Ell of High River as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father Peter Ell, brothers Alvin Ell and Theodore (Ted) Ell.
Elaine was a loving, caring individual who wore many hats, serving on numerous committees, The Bow Island Hospital Auxiliary, Pleasant View Lodge and Golden Age Centre. Her family was very important to her and the largest hat she wore was being the sole caregiver to her mom for the past seventeen years. She was an avid fan of all sports. Elaine participated in wheelchair sports for years competing in many countries, and was the proud recipient of over one hundred medals and accolades. Elaine worked for the Attorney Generals Department, Edmonton, the Northern Lights Wheelchair Association, and most important of all to her was her position with the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Team as Assistant Public Relations Director for nine years. She loved every moment!!
Elaine will be truly missed by her family and many friends.

Jacqueline Marion Gutfriend passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the age of 75 years, beloved wife of Valarian “Val” Gutfriend of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Barry (Bev) Gutfriend of Dunmore, Sherry Scott and Mark Gutfriend both of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Amber-Lee (Blaine) van Leeuwen, Joshua Gutfriend, Emma-Lee Gutfriend, Anna Gutfriend and Cory Scott; two great grandchildren, Owen and Makayla van Leeuwen; one brother, Larry (Dianne) Dickhaut of Medicine Hat; one sister, Doris (Chris) Evangelos of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
