It’s extremely difficult to believe that our Mom was taken so quickly from us, only within a matter of 7 weeks from beginning of her illness to the end. It’s comforting to know that she’s now up in Heaven with Jesus.
During Mom’s younger years, she grew up with a loving, gentle, soft- spoken Mother whom both Mom and her brother respected and adored. Mom had told us numerous times that both her and Fred never fought one time while growing up; now who can say they’ve never fought with their sibling, not once?!
She took great pride and satisfaction working at the Police Station for 26 years as a Secretary. We often heard from Detectives she worked for and her co-workers that Mom had a heart of gold and she was irreplaceable. She loved her job and it showed.
Mom’s love for people was evident and enormous! She showed compassion towards those who were ill by sewing blankets for them – every stitch was sewn with love.
Her passion was to make the world a better place to live in by volunteering for organizations such as: Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Mission and Outreach, Schizophrenia Society, Unisphere and her Church Board.
Mom’s forte was using her gifts of expertise, proper grammar and spelling. It was nothing to come over to see her typing up “Letter of Recommendation”, Resumes, Minutes of Meetings for organizations she didn’t even belong to – offering her services . . . . for free.
Reading, bowling (which in her younger years earned Top Triple Bowler) and golfing with Dad were a few of her hobbies. She loved to take trips to the mountains, Vegas, family trip to Hawaii and especially celebrating Mom and Dad’s 50th anniversary to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Croatia. At least a week prior to every trip, she shared with us how she wasn’t able to sleep due to being so excited.
Family meant everything to Mom, just spending time sitting around the kitchen table talking and sharing funny stories, this is what she enjoyed most.
Mom was by far, one-of-a-kind who touched many, many lives.
The world is a different place without you here Mom. We love you and will miss you so very much!
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jan Stevenson officiating. A private family interment will be held. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, P.O. Box 767, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2L4; Habitat for Humanity, Medicine Hat Society, P.O. Box 22012 RPO Core, Medicine Hat, T1A 8M5 or to the Schizophrenia Society, 526B 3rd Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 0H3.
