Firefighters responded to a small outdoor structure fire around midnight on Saturday in the South West Hill neighbourhood.

“It wasn’t a big fire,” Medicine Hat Fire Service platoon chief Joe Greenan said of the incident that occurred at a building on 11th Street SW.

He said the fire could have come from a brick barbecue or outdoor fireplace.

“They observed no visible smoke or fire inside of the structure, so it was on the wall of the house or roof of the house,” said Greenan.

“It started a little fire … where the brick chimney goes through the roof.”

He added that the fire was “put out right away” and there were no injuries.

“They cut a few holes just to make sure there was no extension into the attic or anything like that,” Greenan said.
