Library Chat: Show your library some love

By Medicine Hat News on February 2, 2018.

Next Friday, Feb. 9, we’re asking Hatters to support your library by purchasing tickets to our Lovin’ the Library fundraiser.

You might ask why we need to hold an annual fundraiser — we are, after all, funded by the City of Medicine Hat and the Government of Alberta. Here’s why: We want to reach more people. We want to do more for our community, our patrons, our friends, our families.

We have yet to meet our fundraising goal for our recently completed theatre renovation. This renovation, which began last February, made our theatre accessible to all with the addition of accessible seating options and auditory aids for the hearing impaired. When the fundraising for this project is complete, we have our sights set on expanding our services and reaching more of the community by adding a satellite location in another area of the city. This doesn’t necessarily mean building another brick and mortar location, but perhaps, partnering with a business or organization to further our reach.

So, as you can see, we have visions of growth for the future that only you can help us achieve. Your Lovin’ the Library ticket purchase will help us meet these goals and in return, we have a fun and unique evening planned for you in the elegantly transformed library.

During the event, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres catered by Shooting Star Events, a cash bar stocked with Hell’s Basement brews and Co-op Gold wines, a scavenger hunt, mystery wine game, adult storytime, and a variety show with live entertainment by local acts including dancing by the Medicine Hat Scottish Country Dancers; singing by the TarTones; chamber music performed by Elaine Dobek-Shandro (piano), Robert Bardston (cello), and Dr. Henk Hak (violin); bellydancing by Tone Fitness and Dance; and comedy by Steve Krysak.

The live and silent auctions will give guests a chance to bid on a variety of unique experiences. For example, how would you like to watch the March 3 Tigers vs. Rebels game in a private suite at the Canalta Centre with 11 of your closest friends while wearing a team signed jersey? How about watching the Flames vs. Panthers game from centre ice in the Saddledome? Want to learn kayaking and take a guided paddle adventure down the South Saskatchewan River? Take a sight-seeing plane ride around Medicine Hat? Take a cruise in classic cars on your way to the Cars & Guitars festival? Paint a masterpiece during a private paint night at Inspire Studio & Gallery? Get a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the Esplanade archives, museum, gallery, and stage? All of these experiences, and many more, will be up for bids at the fundraiser.

Please support your library by purchasing tickets to this unique event. Tickets are $65/adult or $450/group of eight, available on http://www.eventbrite.ca or at the library. Call us at 403-502-8525 for more information.

Thank you for your support.

Gillian Reimer is head of marketing at the Medicine Hat Public Library.
