The Art Room on 2nd is preparing for its first feature show, highlighting Alberta artist Megan Weir.

Weir has been capturing the beauty of everyday life out on the prairies since 2017, exploring themes of heritage, resilience and authenticity along the way. This show, “Intentions,” builds on these ideas, exploring the beauty and meaning that remain when sounds and distractions fade away.

What’s left is “rooted in grit and grace,” said Weir. The collection centres on mindful observation and highlights the animals of the West, from domestic animals such as horses and cattle to various wildlife.

Weir grew up ranching in Alberta, shaped by early mornings, horses and the prairie landscape. That experience continues to influence her work. Since she began painting, she has created hundreds of oil paintings inspired by rural life, the world around her.

Her work has been shown in exhibitions, including the Pure West Art & Artifact Auction in Calgary, and her paintings are held in private collections across North America and Australia. She also received an honourable mention at the 2025 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Art Show.

The feature show will be in the gallery, Art Room on 2nd in downtown Medicine Hat, from Apr. 10-25, with a public reception from 5-8 p.m. on Apr. 10. Admission to the reception is free, offering art enthusiasts a chance to meet Weir, get a first look at the paintings on display and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
