Ringette Roundup: U12C Mustangs capture Chinook Regionals championship

The Medicine Hat U12C Mustangs closed out their season in winning fashion.

The Mustangs captured Chinook Regionals gold over the weekend, winning their final tournament in Lethbridge.

They set the tone early in the tournament, kicking things off with a 13-1 win over Airdrie. Medicine Hat carried momentum into their second game, winning 11-1 over Bow View-1.

In their third game they took down the host Lethbridge team, winning 12-1. Facing their toughest matchup in the tournament, they beat Bow View-2 by a score of 4-1.

Advancing to the semifinals, the Mustangs faced Bow View-2 again, wth a spot in the championship game on the line. They rose the occasion, skating to a 5-2 victory to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.

The championship matchup came against Rockyford and delivered with a back-and-forth matchup. In the end, the Mustangs won 10-7 to capture Chinook Regionals gold.

Nora Dunn stood tall in net throughout the tournament, backstopping the Mustangs to the title. With the weekend win, the U12C Mustangs returned to Medicine Hat with two banners as U12C League Champions and U12C Regional Champions.

The U12B Mustangs were in Lethbridge for a pair of exhibition games against the Rattlers.

The first contest was a back-and-forth battle, with the Mustangs narrowly falling 6-5. Charlie Lowe and Avery Fuller each found the back of the net twice, Sloan Loehndorf added a tally. Assists came from Dylin Kerluke with a pair and all three of Zoe Aarden, Isabelle Perrault and Loehndorf adding helpers. Zayda Dawson kept the Mustangs in the contest with her efforts between the pipes.

The second contest was another back and forth matchup, with Lethbridge pulling out a 7-4 win.

Lowe led the way again with two goals, with Fuller and Fallyn Weeks adding singles. Helpers came from Ava Lanuk, Weeks, Fuller and Kerluke. Dawson once again stood tall in net.

The U12B Mustangs turn their focus to Regionals this weekend in Calgary, looking to go out on top in their final games of the season.

U19

The U19B Mustangs put together a consistent performance at the 2026 U19 Provincials in St. Albert, finishing as silver medalists after an overtime loss to the previously undefeated Calgary NW-1 in the gold medal game.

In the finals, the Mustangs pushed Calgary to overtime before falling 2-1. Ravyn Lehr scored both Mustangs goals, with assists from Avi Velichko, Kasey Martin, and Reese Tabor.

The Mustangs opened the tournament with a strong showing on Day 1 with a pair of convincing victories. In their first game, they defeated Edmonton-1 10-4. Kendall Smith and Ryleigh Jackiw led the offence with three goals each, Martin added two and Leighton Wright and Velichko each contributed one. Ava Allchurch paced the team with four assists, while Kensie Provost and Velichko each recorded two. Additional assists came from Wright, Sutton Provost, Jackiw, Bella Heinrichs, Martin and Brooklyn Thomas.

The Mustangs followed up with a 9-2 win over host team St. Albert-1. After a slower start, the team found its rhythm and pulled away. Wright scored three goals, Jackie and Lehr each added two, and Velichko and Ava Allchurch rounded out the scoring.

Velichko led with three assists, Jackiw added two and Jayna Allchurch, Ava Allchurch, Martin, Sutton Provost, Kensie Provost and Tayler Soveran-Welte each contributed one.

The Mustangs closed out round robin play with a commanding 13-5 victory over Calgary NW-3. Jackiw scored three times, while Provost and Lehr each had two goals. Additional goals came from Ava Allchurch, Wright, Smith, Velichko, Jayna Allchurch and Martin.

Velihcko recorded five assists, Lehr and Ava Allchurch each had four, while Wright and Jackiw added two apiece. Thomas also contributed two assists, with Martin, Provost, and Jayna Allchurch each adding one.

In the crossover round, the Mustangs defeated Fort McMurray-2 by a score of 7-2 to advance to the semifinals. Wright led with three goals, Jackiw added two and Martin and Velichko each scored once. Martin and Thomas each had two assists, while Velichko added two as well. Additional assists were credited to Ava Allchurch, Lehr, Jackiw and Bella Heinrichs.

The Mustangs carried that momentum into the semifinal, where they earned an 8-2 win over Sherwood Park-2 to earn their spot in the final. Wright and Velichko each scored twice, while Jackiw, Ava Allchurch, Kensie Provost and Martin each added a goal.

Wright and Jackiw both recorded two assists, as did Martin, while Velichko, Ava Allchurch and Martin each contributed one.

The Mustangs also made a strong impact individually, with seven players finishing in the top-15 in tournament scoring. Velichko placed second overall, followed by Jackiw in third and Wright in fourth. Ava Allchurch finished sixth, Lehr seventh, Martin 12th and Kensie Provost 15th.
