Due to the Family Day holiday on Monday, city council will meet Tuesday this week, with the public meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s meeting will see council hear a motion to pause engagement on the Transportation Master Plan until the fourth quarter of 2026.

The pause is being proposed to allow for a reassessment after public engagement about the Riverside Corridor is able to take place and the results of the 2026 IPSOS survey are available.

Other key business on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting concerns the annual property assessment results.

The annual report highlights changes to the 2026 property assessment values that impact property owners due to changes in the market valuation. These changes are then communicated to local property owners with the mailing of Annual Property Assessment Notices, which will begin Feb. 27.

According to the presentation that will be shared with councillors Tuesday, Medicine Hat’s 29,110 property tax accounts are comprised of 90 per cent residential properties, 9 per cent non-residential properties, 0.6 per cent multi-family properties and 0.3 per cent farmland.

The data suggests residential real estate remains stable and affordable. The median market change affecting single-family properties this year is 7.5 per cent, with an increase of 9.6 per cent for condos and 1.2 per cent for tri-plex and four-plexes.

The city is also reporting a 6.9 per cent increase in manufactured home units.

Council will also discuss two bylaws regarding land title change and rezoning and an update to the Community Funding Framework.
