SAHA wins inaugural CSSHL East West Challenge

In the CSSHL’s battle between East and West, SAHA’s U18 men’s team came out on top.

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s prep team won the inaugural CSSHL East West Challenge, beating the Burnaby Winter Club Academy 2-1 overtime victory in Sunday’s final held in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Que.

Kingston Chisholm scored the OT winner 2:12 into the extra frame, Cash Christie made 22 saves in the Challenge winner. Ryker Klassen also scored in the final.

The Canadian Sport School Hockey League event featured seven teams from the East take on seven teams from the West in a U18 Prep matchup. SAHA put themselves in the finals with a 5-3 win over the Okanagan Hockey Academy earlier in the day Sunday.

Damen Vanderberg, Hunter Saddleback and Devin Pelletier each had a goal and an assist and both Karter Kurpjuweit and Linden Andersen scored solo tallies, Chisholm had three assists. Hunter Zawislak made 22 saves.

SAHA opened the tournament with an 8-1 win Thursday over Okanagan Hockey Ontario. Aidan Poulin had two goals with an assist, Andersen, Chisholm and Braden Hordichuk each had a goal and an assist and all three of Ryker Klassen, Kayne Wright and Venderberg had solo tallies. Zawislak made 11 saves.

On Friday they beat Fort Erie International Academy 8-1. Pelletier had two goals with an assist, Vanderberg had a goal and three assists, Chisholm and Carson Ward each had a goal and two assists and both Ty Wasyluk and Aquila had a goal and an assist. Brennan Finke scored and Christie made 29 saves.

SAHA beat Bourget College 4-3 on Saturday. Ward had a goal and an assist, all three of Dylan Sherban, Pelletier and Wasyluk each scored and Christie, a Medicine Hat Tigers prospect, made 33 saves.
