As construction continues on the new K-9 Holy Trinity Academy school, which is set to open its doors to welcome students in September 2027, families are invited to an hour-long information night planned in February.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education announced it will be hosting a special update for families on Feb. 11 that will include the latest progress on construction of the new school.

During the information session families will be updated on current construction milestones and work that still needs to be completed., as well as a showcase on how the new school is designed to enhance student accessibility and serve the broader school community. Sponsorship and naming rights opportunities will also be discussed.

The new school will boost a 380-seat full theatre with additional seating for special needs, two full-sized gymnasiums and several dedicated classrooms for science, dance, woodworking and art, as well as a food lab with the ability to host a concessions stand during events in the theatre or gymnasium.

Once open it will welcome students from three schools under one roof, including St. Francis Xavier, St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s, and is designed in collaboration with Monsignor McCoy High School to expand and improve programming throughout MHCBE.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says the design features modern wheelchair access, drop-down tables and braille along the wall, and is designed to be the most accessible school in Alberta.

Other features include painted lines on the floor and a coloured-coded map system so new students can easily find their way to classrooms. Division staff say the new outdoor playground is also being designed with accessibility in mind, allowing more students to play without barriers.

Medicine Hat Catholic families are encouraged to attend the information night starting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Holy Family Parish.

“Whether your child will attend Holy Trinity Academy or another Catholic school, this is your school, too,” reads a press release. “The presence of staff and families from across the division helps strengthen the foundation of Catholic education for all.”
