Local singing group The Tartones are extending an invitation to Medicine Hat to spend an evening with them full of song and community.
Christmas with the Tartones will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Dec. 15, starting at 7p.m. Director Sheryl Schnare advises those interested to expect a collection of Christmas songs both secular and sacred, all in stunning harmony.
“They have been singing together since 1997,” said Schnare. “They began in January of that year when they were asked to sing for Robert Burns Day celebration. So that’s where the name came from.”
The four-part men’s choir is known to perform at a variety of events throughout the year, often at charity or community events such as the upcoming Dickens of a Christmas hosted by Canadians Reaching Out to the World’s Children this coming Sunday.
“We have a little intermission time between the two parts and we usually showcase different musical talent from around the community,” said Schnare. “So I believe this year, one of our members is quite an accomplished pianist so he will be providing us with some piano music during that time.”
There will be a reception following the performance.
The Tartones are not an auditioned choir and are always seeking new members, added Schnare. Their next term will begin in late January, so anyone interested in potentially singing with the group is encouraged to reach out. No musical experience is required to join.
