The Medicine Hat Boxing Club had three fighters compete at a sub novice event in Calgary last weekend.

Quincy McComeau, Zac Czember and Colby Carruthers fought at the tournament hosted by the Southpaw Boxing Club. The sub novice tournament is slated for boxers with zero to two bouts experience.

Czember lost a close bout to Mohammed Shirzad from Westchester Edmonton in the 34 kg. Jr.A. and Carruthers lost to Kevin Malidom from Chestermere in the Elite 69 kg. McComeau defeated Jean Marc Coronancian in the Elite 65 kg., a fight coach Kerry Fahlman says was a tough bout, moving him to the final.

McComeau’s opponent pulled out of the fight, giving him the sub novice championship.

The Boxing Club is in action this weekend, sending Nate Vossler and Jacob Walne to Vancouver.
