While Brooks RCMP and members of the Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit continue their investigation into the death of Fatima Ahmed, whose remains were discovered Wednesday evening, Mounties are reminding the public there is no indication of an ongoing risk to the public.
RCMP say they are aware of several social media posts providing “erroneous information” with regards to the invitation of the death of the 20-year-old woman.
“We understand the feats and anxieties that such erroneous posts can generate. RCMP are advising that citizens should take what is circulating on social media with some skepticism, especially when there has been no official police report or warning issued,” reads the press release.
Police say currently the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine Ahmed’s cause of death.
Ahmed, of Brooks, was originally reported missing a day after she was last seen in Brooks on Aug. 15. Alberta RCMP released details seeking information into her disappearance over social media on Aug. 18.
