While the official centennial of the United Church of Canada is today, various congregations of the region celebrated a little bit early with a unique service.
Hosted during what Rev. Dave Pollard referred to as “prime time” Sunday morning, the congregations of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, Westminster United Church, Gordon Memorial United Church in Redcliff and Peace United in Irvine all met under one roof for worship and a morning celebrating how far the church has come.
The service featured a choir anthem for each church choir, as well as a chosen hymn representing each congregation and a reflection on the choice from each church in addition to regular service.
This was the first event where the communities met together on a Sunday morning, but it was well received by attendees who remarked on how beautiful the service was while meeting for lunch and fellowship well into the afternoon.
