Taya Christie and Keira Grant captured a national championship Saturday afternoon.
The Medicine Hat hockey players captured Esso Cup gold with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers, defeating the Saskatoon Stars 7-3 at the Canada Women’s U18 National Club Championship hosted in Llyodminster.
Christie played the last 20 minutes of the game for Edmonton, making five saves in the win.
Grant scored in the first period, also recording an assist in the second period.
Grant had four goals and five points in seven games of the tournament. Christie started three games in the tournament before her appearance in the finals, recording three wins with a shutout while working a 1.46 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
Both represented Medicine Hat and Alberta at the U18 Women’s nationals in November.
