For the first time, the Grandmother to Grandmother Campaign, which supports people in sub-Saharan Africa, is seeking donations of fabric, yarn, sewing notions, books and patterns that will be sold at the 10th annual Fabric, Yarn and More sale at the end of March.
Since 2008, the community fabric sale by the local Grannies for Africa group, has raised more than $80,000 for the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign, an initiative of the Stephen Lewis Foundation that provides stable, long-term funding to community-led organizations in Africa.
Community groups like Grannies for Africa provide care and support for people living with HIV, women and orphaned children, people living with disabilities and members of the LGBTIQ community.
This year the group is actively looking for donations that can be included in the annual sale, such as quilting fabrics, sewing notions like buttons, zippers, thread and patterns as well as sewing machines.
“Yarn, knitting and crocheting patterns and needles are also appreciated,” reads a media release.
The group is accepting donations until March 22 and is willing to pick up any donation. If you have any goods to donate, or are looking for further information, you can reach out to Shelia at 403-580-7715, or Kathy at 403-928-2135.
The annual Fabric, Yarn and More sale runs March 29 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and all sales are cash only.
