Jordan Switzer sure didn’t look like a rookie over the last week for the Medicine Hat Tigers.
The net minder was awarded the WHL’s rookie of the week honours after picking up a pair of wins between the pipes for the Tigers. Over the week, the 18-year-old led the WHL with a 2-0 record, a 0.50 goals-against average, a .982 save percentage and a shutout.
He made 32 saves Wednesday in a 3-1 win at Prince Albert over the Raiders in the Feb. 12 edition of the Wednesday Night in the Dub.
Switzer stood tall on Saturday in a goaltenders’ duel, out-battling Regina Pats’ starter Ewan Huet, making 22 saves in a 1-0 shut-out win for the Tigers. He made a pair of breakaway saves to preserve the slim lead and earn his second shutout of the season.
On the year, Switzer is 20-6-2 in his first full WHL season, with a 2.87 goals-against average, .893 save percentage and the two shutouts. He sits fifth among all qualified WHL net minders in goals against average, is tied for sixth in wins and tied for second in shutouts.
He’s the second Tiger to be named the WHL’s rookie of the week, with forward Liam Ruck receiving the honours Dec. 9.
