Practice continues to pay off for the Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs, who were golden over the weekend.
The Mustangs took first place at the City of Bridges tournament in Saskatoon.
They had three wins and one tie heading into the championship game Sunday afternoon, facing one of the host teams Saskatoon Stealers in a contest that went into extra time.
Emma Pinnell stood tall in net, as the Mustangs held their own in a back-and-forth game ending in a 3-3 tie after the two halves. Leighton Wright scoring the game winner in overtime, clinching the gold for Medicine Hat. Margot Kerr scored twice and Ravyn Lehr had a solo tally.
The U16B Mustangs are on the road this weekend, heading to Calgary to play against the CBV-U16B and CNW – U16B teams. Their next home games are March 2 at 9:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Moose.
U19
The U19 Mustangs have had a very successful season thus far, winning the Chinook League in back-to-back seasons. As a result of the strong season, the Ringette Alberta tiering committee moved the team up to A for the remainder of the season.
The new-tier Mustangs traveled to Calgary on Saturday.
In the first game, they played the defending RAB 19A provincial champions and 2024 Western winners, Calgary NW-1. The Mustangs started slow but found some competitive edge before ultimately falling. The lone goal came from Ryleigh Jackiw, assisted by Hannah Thompson and Brooklyn Thomas.
In their second game, the Mustangs looked to rebound and win. They were tied 2-2 after the first period, but lost 6-3 to Strathmore after running out of steam in the second period.
Erika Want, Thompson and Ava Allchurch all scored with Pacie Harper recording two assists and both Mackenzie Tindall and Sophie Kerr adding a helper.
The Mustangs have some time to prepare for more A games moving forward, their next action is Feb. 23, when they play Calgary Bow View and Calgary NW-2 in Calgary.
U10
The U10 Step 3 Mustangs were on the road in Okotoks for a doubleheader against Foothills on Saturday.
The Mustangs came out on top in the first game 8-3 with Jayla-Rae Klaudt between the pipes.
Charlie Lowe and Sloan Loehndorf each scored twice and Avery Fuller, Lexi Aldred, Kylee Drever, and Blaire Dirk all added singles. Zoe Aarden had two assists and Lowe and Drever each added a helper.
The Mustangs came out strong again in the second game, seeing Loehndorf and Lowe each score a hat trick and Fuller adding a goal as well for the 7-2 win. Dirk added two assists, while Aldred, Miriam McClung and Aphten Myram each added one. Everley Cross stood tall in net for the victory.
The U10 Step 3 Mustangs host Lethbridge in their last home games of the season on Feb. 22 at the Moose.
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs had two games against Lethbridge over the weekend, splitting the slate.
They lost the first game 10-8. Nora Dunn in net for the first half, Lily Steiner was between the pipes for the second half. Hudson Kerluke scored three times and all five of Gabby O’Reilly, Harper Fuller, Laila Loehndorf, Nora Dunn and Hailee Kopeck scored a solo tally.
The Mustangs took the second game, winning 9-7. Bailey Weeks in net to start the game, with Gabby O’Reilly in net for the second half. Hudson Kerluke, Hallie Vossler and Haliee Kopeck each scored twice, with Nora Dunn, Harper Fuller and Lily Steiner adding a goal each.
The next game for the Step 2 Mustangs is Feb. 22 for a pair of games against Airdrie.
The U10 Step 1 Mustangs were in Airdrie on Saturday for a pair of games.
The Mustang’s first game was against Strathmore. Thea Pancoast and Teagan Forsyth were in net for the yellow and green.
Three Mustangs each had four goals with Brielle St. Laurent, Adelyn Morvik and Addison Clegg all collecting a four-spot. Ashlee Dupuis had a hat trick.
In their second game, taking on Indus, Kylie Klaudt was in net to start with Briar Gobin finishing the game. Brielle St. Laurent scored four times, Ashlee Dupuis had a hat trick, Adelyn Morvik had a pair of goals and all three of Teagan Forsyth, Briar Gobin and Kylie Kaludt all scored a goal.
