RCMP in Brooks have charged two suspects with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking after seizing more than $35,000 of illicit drugs after executing two search warrants Thursday.

RCMP say they executed search warrants as a result of a drug investigation involving the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit during a vehicle stop in the area of Sunny Lea, while two homes were searched on Maple Drive and Greenbrook Road.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday over social media, RCMP advised the public to avoid the area.

As a result of the searches, police seized 183 grams of cocaine, 55 grams of methamphetamine and 700 tablets of dilaudid, a morphinan odious used to treat moderate to severe pain.

Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia, including four scales.

“A significant quality of illicit drugs were located in all three locations,” reads a media release.

RCMP have charged a 58-year-old female and a 37-year-old female with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

No court details have been released at this time by police. The News reached out to RCMP for further comment but had no response by time of publication.
