The Medicine Hat U19 Mustangs picked up gold at the first tournament of the season.
The Mustangs took first place at the St. Albert Turkey Ring Tournament this weekend.
They kicked the tournament off with a 10-4 win Friday over the host St. Albert 2.
Kasey Martin scored three times, both Grace Ammann and Erika Want scored a pair of goals and Mackenzie Tindall, Pacie Harper and Sophie Kerr all scored.
They squeaked out a win in the second contest, beating Sherwood Park 6-5.
Harper scored twice, Hannah Thompson, Kerr and Ammann each scored, Martin tallied the game winner.
The Mustangs punched their ticket to the finals with a 10-0 win Saturday over St. Albert 1.
Both Martin and Kerr scored a pair. Harper, Jordy Provost, Want, Karly Stennick, Thompson and Tindall all scored. Kyree Rebmann-Stern recorded the shutout, her first of the season.
They clinched the gold with a 6-3 win over Airdrie on Sunday. Kerr scored twice and all four of Want, Thompson, Amman and Martin scored in the win.
The U19 Mustangs head to Calgary on Oct. 26 for a double header against Calgary North West.
U16
The U16 Mustangs brought home a silver medal from the St. Albert Turkey Ring.
The Mustangs went 2-1 in round-robin play, beating Edmonton 7-4, falling to Drayton Valley 10-8 before winning 10-7 over St. Albert.
Five Mustangs found twine against Edmonton, with Leighton Wright, Sutton Provost, Sloane Berstad, Tia Van Maarion and Reese Tabor all scoring.
In the second game, against Drayton Valley, the Mustangs have five goal scorers in Margot Kerr, Berstad, Van Maarion, Wright and Tabor.
They booked their spot in the finals with a 10-7 win over St. Albert. Jordyn Leblanc, Wright, Provost, Jayna Allchurch, Tabor, Kristyn Want and Berstad all scored.
The final was tied at 6-6 after regulation and a five-minute, sudden-death overtime period. The Mustangs lost in the shootout after six shooters. Ravyn Lehr, Margot Kerr, Wright and Tabor all scored.
Emma Pinnell stood tall in net and stopped the first five shots in the shootout.
The next games for the U16 Mustangs are this weekend when they travel to Calgary on Saturday for games against Indus and Bow View.
