Police have charged 43-year-old Joey McConnell with weapons-related offences after police responded to a report of a male pointing a firearm outside the mall on Sept. 7.
According to initial reports a verbal altercation occurred between McConnell and a group of youths outside the mall. During the altercation McConnell allegedly pointed a handgun at the group before fleeing the scene.
Police were able to identify and arrest McConnell with the help of witness statements and video surveillance of the area. McConnell was arrested on without incident.
At the time of his arrest, McConnell was found in possession of a BB-style handgun believed to have been used during the altercation and has been charged with three offences, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and failing to comply with a release order.
McConnell was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released on a release order. He is scheduled to appear before Provincial Court on Oct. 3.
